खेत की मेड़ (boundary) पर पेड़ लगाने से मुख्य फसल की जमीन प्रभावित नहीं होती। मेड़ पर पॉपलर (2.5 से 3.5 मीटर दूरी) या क्लोनल सफेदा (1.5 से 2 मीटर दूरी) सबसे उपयुक्त होते हैं। पेड़ों को उत्तर-दक्षिण दिशा की मेड़ पर प्राथमिकता दें ताकि मुख्य फसल पर कम से कम छाया पड़े।
